Hi Jeff & Allison

Please find attached my checklist of birds seen during my Aruban holiday last September, hope there is a sighting or two that might be of interest to you. I was there with my wife who likes the beach so she does not mind if I go off birding for a few hours although the heat slowed me down a bit. It was so hot - high nineties - everyday, so my trips out were in the late afternoon around the Bucuti hotel where we stayed. A bit about myself: have been birding since 1976, mostly England where we live, with many visits to other European countries, especially Spain where my sister lives. Also 4 visits to the states and 3 to the Caribbean. As well as my checklist, attached is a picture of a duck. Its ID I am stuggling with. Hope you can help. It was in the company of 2 WE pintails at the hospital pools, but as soon as I approached it was off. The duck was slightly bigger than the pintails and had white secondaries seen when in flight.

                                                                        Yours, Bill Brooking

Jeff and Allison: The bird in your photo is a Blue-winged Teal. It is a common winterer on Aruba and throughout the Caribbean and Central and South America. Thanks for your report!
